Okanagan Indigenous Music and Arts Society is honoured to support this wonderful celebration and is excited to present the Okanagan's very own singer-songwriter Francis Baptiste to join the stage with an incredible line up Syilx artists.
Francis Baptiste
A divorced, recovering alcoholic, Francis Baptiste is an Indigenous songwriter originally from the Okanagan Valley, Canada. He now resides in Vancouver, where he is a musician and music journalist who writes for Vancouver Weekly, Permanent Rain Press, and Citrus Magazine. His upcoming debut LP will feature songs in Nsyilxcn, the language of his people. Nsyilxcn is a dying language that very few people in his small community still know how to speak. It's his goal to bring awareness to the importance of conserving cultural heritage by writing songs in his language.
We also encourage you to visit nqʷícsʔtxʷ an pínaʔ (fill your basket) Vendor Area which will be featuring authentic Indigenous Artisans and Makers.
Admission is free.
Please contact the Rotary Centre for the Arts for further information and registration.
